Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, hands-on healthcare profession focused on your spine, muscles, joints and nervous system. Chiropractic treatment is a preventive form of medicine that is becoming popular for the treatment of many common chronic and acute medical conditions —it is more than adjustments to your neck or back.
Chiropractors’ approach to patient care is similar to Physiotherapists and Athletic Therapists. They assess injuries and conditions related to the musculoskeletal system, and practice a hands-on approach to healthcare that includes patient examination, diagnosis, treatment and patient care. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises. They use evidence-based research and clinical expertise to diagnose issues that affect your body’s movement.
Our chiropractors are uniquely qualified to evaluate your condition or injury. They will work with you, in conjunction with our health care team to determine the best course of action and treatment for you. Our chiropractors will use a variety of manual techniques, restorative rehabilitation exercises and therapeutic modalities to help facilitate the safe and rapid return to your activities after an injury or condition.
Acupuncture is an important component of Traditional Chinese medicine. TCM Acupuncture uses the careful insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points of the body that regulate the flow of energy. Relatively painless, it often results in sensations of heaviness, warmth or tingling in the area of insertion as the flow of energy increases. The correct balance of energy throughout the body can help relieve many symptoms such as musculoskeletal pain, digestive disorders, sleep, emotional imbalances, stress and headaches, pregnancy and gynecological issues among others.
Acupuncture points stimulate the central nervous system which releases endorphins, which are our bodies’ natural pain-relieving hormones, into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These changes stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.
Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is an effective treatment alone or in combination with your Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Naturopathic, or Massage treatments to treat joint pain, headaches, muscle pain, inflammation or swelling, nerve pain and emotional/mental distress. The effect of Acupuncture will depend on the nature or cause of your injury or condition.

Cupping is a traditional Chinese medicine modality to remove stagnation and stimulate the flow of qi(chi) or energy. It is also used to treat chronic muscle tension, joint pain, stress and anxiety.
There are several cupping techniques:
Fire Cupping: Fire cupping is an alternative, non-invasive treatment technique that uses special cups placed on the skin to encourage blood flow to damaged areas. is often recommended to patients who suffer from muscular pain, joint pain, skin problems, respiratory disorders
Cupping is associated with an abundance of positive outcomes. Some benefits of cupping therapy include: Optimizing sport performance, Reducing recovery time, Increasing blood flow, Softening scar tissue, Decreasing pain and muscle spasms.
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a form of table-based assisted stretching that focuses on a series of movements created to unlock tension in the deepest layers of the tissue. This includes the many connective tissue layers surrounding the muscles, joints, nerves, and bones.
The aim is to unravel restrictions in the fascia, relax the hold the nervous system has on the tissue and open up the joint space by stretching the fascia throughout the body. The goal is to achieve optimal strength, increased flexibility, increase performance, reduce pain and help prevent injury.
It incorporates breath techniques and traction while taking joints to their available pain free ranges. Gentle muscle contraction may also be used to achieve length and decrease tone in muscles.
It is a pain-free method of stretching, performed on a massage table.
A sports massage is a style of massage designed to improve athletic performance and prevent injuries.
It is the application of basic and treatment oriented massage techniques to an athlete or active individuals with the purpose of enhancing preparation for, or recovery from the physical demands of training, practice and or competition. There are several stages of the application of sport massage and this depends on the stage of training and competition the athlete is in, ie. pre-event, inter-event, post-event and recovery. The techniques of sport massage are applied with purpose. The outcome of sport massage is to create physiological effects that result in therapeutic outcomes, which translate into performance enhancement.
Sport Massage is an integral part of an athletic or active individual training and competition program. It complements all other health care approaches as well as many physiological and performance related benefits.
Whether you’re a competitive athlete or a casual exerciser, muscles trains, muscle tension and soreness impair your ability to keep doing what you love to do. Sports massage is an effective way to manage the ups and downs of an active lifestyle.
Our sport massage therapists are highly trained registered massage therapists, who have completed the required education, training and sport specific experience through the Canadian SportMassage Therapists Association.
We know shockwave therapy is effective – but how exactly does it work?
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a modern and highly effective treatment method: high-energy sound waves are introduced into the body. Shockwave therapy accelerates the healing process in the body by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue. Strong energy pulses are applied to the affected area for short periods of time, creating micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The force created by these bubbles stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing.
In shockwave therapy, an acoustic pressure wave is transmitted to the body tissue and, consequently, to the painful area. The pressure wave created at the point of contact transmits radially inside the patient’s body.
Shockwave therapy is most suited for people who have chronic (i.e. greater than six weeks) tendinopathies (commonly referred to as tendinitis) which haven't responded to other treatment; these include: tennis elbow, Achilles, rotator cuff, plantar fasciitis, jumpers knee, calcific tendinitis of the shoulder. These could be as a result of sport, overuse, or repetitive strain.
You will be assessed by the physiotherapist or Chiropractor at your first visit to confirm that you are an appropriate candidate for shockwave therapy. The Therapist will ensure you are educated about your condition and what you can do in conjunction with treatment - activity modification, specific exercises, assessing any other contributing issues such as posture, tightness/weakness of other muscle groups etc.
Shockwave treatment on most conditions require 3-5 treatments, spaced out over once a week, with 2000-4000 shocks per treatment, depending on results. Many people begin to feel some relief during that period, however healing occurs over the next 12 weeks and the best results are felt after this period of time. Occasionally, stubborn conditions require a fourth or fifth session to achieve optimal results.
The treatment itself can cause mild discomfort, but it only last 4-5 minutes, and the intensity can be adjusted to keep it comfortable. After the treatment, you may experience temporary soreness, tenderness or swelling for a few days following the procedure, as the shockwaves stimulate an inflammatory response. But this is the body healing itself naturally. So, it’s important not to take any anti-inflammatory medication after treatment, which may slow down the results.
Custom bracing are an effective way to both stabilize and protect an injury, while allowing a return to regular everyday activities or to sport. Custom bracing can be used for a variety of conditions that may cause pain or limit your function. Whether it be a ligament injury, post-surgery, or osteoarthritis, bracing is designed to restore movement, support recovery, decrease pain and optimize performance.
We offer a wide range of custom bracing options for the upper and lower body that are designed to treat conditions such as tennis/golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel, patella femoral conditions, ACL, MCL and ankle injuries to name a few.
A custom made orthotic is a prescribed corrective removable insole that is placed in the shoes to hold the foot in the proper position to allow the joints, muscles and ligaments of your feet to function closer to their normal limits. This allows the feet to gain biomechanical advantage and move the foot and lower leg more efficiently, therefore eliminating foot and lower leg pain and ailments, e.g. heel spur syndrome, bunions, calluses, shin splints, runner’s knee, etc.
For best results, wearing a custom braces/support is often recommended as part of an overall treatment plan with one of our Therapist.
